In the Corvair world, a lot of this kind of stuff is documented, and there used to be (may still be, as I haven't seen an issue in awhile) a column in the CORSA Communique called "Stock is...", detailing how things came from the factory, and the info is used in concours judging for the Factory Stock class at CORSA conventions.
Things varied between assembly plants, too (Willow Run versus Los Angeles versus Canada).
